Travel directions - how to reach the accommodation
Getting to Utrecht: ferries, airport, trains
For those coming by car, there are crossings from Harwich to Hook of Holland, Hull to Rotterdam, Newcastle to Amsterdam (IJmuiden), but also from Dover to Dunkerque and Calais in France.
Utrecht Central Station is about 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. During the day trains run several times an hour - and there is even an once-an-hour night service between Utrecht and Schiphol. Check the Journey Planner of the NS (National RR).

There is a taxi platform at Utrecht Central Station. It will cost you approximately €17,00 to get to "Fort aan de Klop".
Getting there bij bus:
- At Utrecht Centraal Station, take bus "lijn 6" direction "Zuilen (via Overvecht)".
- This bus departs from the "stadsbus" platform, not from the "streekbus" platform. The "stadsbus" is run by the GVU bus company. Do not get on "lijn 6" in the direction of "Hoograven (via Tolsteeg)" - this will get you straight into the opposite (i.e. wrong) direction!
- Get off at the busstop "Orinocodreef" (at the "Japuradreef").
- You can ask the driver to announce the stop, if you are lucky he/she will be helpful.
- Follow the "Orinocodreef" (15 m. back, in the opposite direction of the bus).
- Cross the bridge and turn immediately left.
- You are now on the "Klopdijk", follow the canal (on your lefthand side).
- First road to the right: "1e Polderweg", entrance "Fort aan de Klop"
Be advised that travelling on the bus in Utrecht is done by stamping a "strippenkaart".
To get from Utrecht Central Station to Fort aan de Klop you will be travelling through 2 "zones". You need to stamp a strip for every zone you're travelling, plus one base strip for getting on. So you need three strips (for each person) to get from Utrecht Central Station to Fort aan de Klop. Your stamp will be valid for 1 hour within those same two zones - so for a return within 1 hour you'll only need to stamp once.
You can buy a 3-strip strippenkaart from the bus driver for €2,40. If you plan to do a lot of travelling - or if you're travelling as a group, it is more economical to buy a 15-strip strippenkaart at an advance sales outlet for €7,30 (so 15 strips will get 5 people from Utrecht Central Station to Fort aan de Klop).
In case the driver is stamping the strippenkaart for you, it is common practice to mention your destination (relying on his knowledge how many strips that will be) or to declare how many strips you'll want stamped for each person.
